May I Claim Blogger Runs London Marathon In Aid of Phab Kids

We are very proud to be supporting May I Claim I.T. Manager and resident Blogger, Tony Wheeler, as he gets set to raise money for national children’s charity Phab Kids, by running the London Marathon on Sunday.

Tony hopes to raise £2000 for the charity, which offers both able-bodied children and those with disabilities the opportunity to socialise together, whilst taking part in a variety of social and sporting events. May I Claim have pledged to match every donation he recieves pound-for-pound, to help him on his way.

"It's fair to say, I wouldn't be able to reach my target, if it were not for May I Claim"
he said, "everyone is finding it tough economically at the moment and it's more and more difficult for smaller charities like Phab to bring in donations they desperately need, in order to keep the clubs and activitiy centres open for the kids.

May I Claim's offer to match every donation, means that even the smallest contribution is instantly worth double. It helps encourage those who may have mistakenly thought that the small donation they could afford wouldn't make any difference, to make it anyway."

Inspiration

Tony says it was Richard Whitehead’s performance in the London 2012 Paralympic T42 200 Metres final that inspired him to take up Marathon Running. Double above-the-knee amputee and World Record holder in the Marathon, Whitehead switched disciplines to take the Gold and set a new World Record in the T42 200m sprint at the 2012 games.

“My admiration for Richard's achievement has little to do with him being a double-amputee - it would be an incredible achievement for any athlete. I thought, ‘if he can do that, and I’m lucky enough to be healthy and have all my limbs, what am I doing sat on the sofa every night?’ The next day, I decided I was going to run the London Marathon.”

“Phab Kids is the perfect charity, given my inspiration” he says “they encourage kids with disabilities to take part in activities they might otherwise never have dreamed of taking part in, whilst giving their able-bodied peers the opportunity to see past the disabilities and appreciate achievement, in whatever form it takes”.

Tony can be sponsored either online at http://bit.ly/PhabKidsRun or via mobile by texting ‘Phab55 £5’ to 70070. All donations will be matched by May I Claim.

Boston

Tony will be wearing a black arm-band as well as the black ribbon all London marathon runners are being encouraged to wear, in memory of those killed in the Boston Marathon bombings earlier this week. Our thoughts are with all those who were affected by the events on the 15th April 2013.
