Motorbike Accident Claim

Our headlining statistic is made even more staggering when we compare it to the average across all other types of Personal Injury in the UK - where just 20% of injuries inflicted are due to the negligence of others.

Without the protection of seat belts, side impact bars and airbags which other vehicles offer, motorcyclists are incredibly vulnerable and statistics show that they are 40 times more likely to be killed on the road then a car driver or passenger. 362 motorcyclists were killed in the UK in 2011; Whilst that's a decrease of 10% compared to 2010, the number seriously injured rose by 10% to 5,247.

Motorcycle Injuries

Common motorcycle injuries include;
  • Fractures (inc pelvic fractures which are often caused by impact of petrol tanks and middle frame of the bike)
  • Sprains and Strains (inc Biker's Arm where a bike falling on its side can injury the riders arm and shoulder)
  • Contusions & Abrasions (inc Road Rash where a rider hits the ground at speed causing skin and bone abrasions).
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (motorcycle accidents often involve some form of head trauma.)
  • Spinal Cord Injury

According to Accident Statistics for Great Britain, 48% of crashes between motorbikes and cars were the result of the car driver failing to look properly. In fact failing to look properly was the most frequent cause of crashes for all vehicles except motorcycles, who were most likely to crash through ‘loss of control’ and also most likely to be the victim of someone else failing to look.

Motorcycling Hazards

Whilst motorcyclists can help improve their visibility and therefore their conspicuousness, by keeping their headlights on during the day, having a distinctively bright coloured bike and by wearing fluorescent and reflective clothing - there are other dangers, not only from other vehicles, but also from poorly maintained roads, pot holes, uneven surfaces, drain covers and road markings. Spillages such as diesel and gravel can also be particularly dangerous for those on two wheels.

With motorcyclists being at such high risk from accidents that are the result of someone else’s negligence, if you are a motorcyclist and have been involved in an accident through no fault of your own, you may be entitled to claim compensation for your injuries and any damage to your motorcycle, leathers and helmet.
